Dr. Harris M Burte

BURTE, Harris M. 81, passed away June 26, 2009. Born in New York City Nov 14, 1927, son of Jack and Esther (nee/ Grabsky) Burte, he attended New York University, where he received the BS Degree in Chemical Engineering (’46), followed by the MS degree from MIT (’47) and a PhD from Princeton (’50), also in Chemical Engineering. From 1947-53 he was a Research Engineer, Textile Research Institute. From 1953-56 he served on active duty as a Lieutenant in the U. S. Air Force and in the Air Force Reserve through 1964. As a Lieutenant he served as a Project Engineer, Physical Metallurgy, Air Force Materials Laboratory. From 1956-57, he served as an Interdisciplinary Consultant within AFML.  From 1959-60, Chief, Advanced Metallurgical Studies Branch.  1960-61, Chief Engineer for Materials, Systems Engineering Group, Aeronautical Systems Division. 1961 - ?, he was Chief, Metals and Ceramics Division, AFML.  This illustrious career ended in his retirement as Chief Scientist of the Air Force Materials Lab in 1995 after a 42 year career with the Air Force.

Harris was loving husband of 54 years of Miriam, father of sons Lorin Burte of Homewood, IL, Kerry (Bonnie) Burte of Cincinnati and Paul Burte of Clayton as well as loving grandfather of Alex and Amy Burte of Cincinnati.
