

Jerome Kenneth Elbaum

Jerome Kenneth (Ken) Elbaum passed on March 23. Ken was born in 1930 in Glen Cove, NY. He graduated from the University of Missouri at Rolla with a degree in metallurgical engineering and completed work towards his master’s degree at Purdue University and Ohio State. He worked as a civilian and retired from a 25-year career at Wright-Patterson Air Force Base. His career included:
1951-1960 Metallurgist, Stellite Division, Union Carbide Corp.
1960-1961 – Administrative Assistant, Technology Dept, Stellite Division, Union Carbide Corp.
1962-1966 – Metallurgist, Metals Branch, Metals & Ceramics Division, AFML
1966-1971 – Technical Manager for High Temperature Metals, Metals Branch, Metals & Ceramics Division, AFML
In the mid 1970’s he was Technical Area Manager for Metals Fabrication, Metals Branch, Manufacturing Technology Division, AFRL
He retired from the Air Force in 1987
He loved golf, skiing, sailing, woodworking, and travel. He was a longtime member of the congregation of Temple Israel in Dayton. Ken was known for his quick wit, booming laugh, and skill at word games. He was the family Scrabble champion. He often asserted questionable “facts.” When asked about their veracity, his reply was, “If you don’t know, I’m sure.”
