James J. Mattice

Jim Mattice is the Air Force senior executive in residence and a senior faculty member at the Federal Executive Institute, Charlottesville, Va., the administration's single center of excellence for continuing education of both career and non-career federal senior executives. His responsibilities include coordination and management of residential "Leadership for a Democratic Society" programs, facilitator of leadership development teams, mentor and counselor of program participants and development and delivery of courses in the area of science and technology public policy. In previous positions, Mr. Mattice served as deputy assistant secretary of the Air Force for research and engineering in the Office of the Secretary of the Air Force, the Pentagon; executive director in the commander's office and director of development planning at the Aeronautical System Center, Wright-Patterson Air Force Base, Ohio. These assignments culminated 33 years of experience involving conduct of in-house laboratory research and leadership of all aspects of basic research, exploratory and advanced development and manufacturing technology development programs and organizations. Mr. Mattice is internationally recognized for his accomplishments as a research and development establishment leader, corporate strategic planner, international cooperative program architect and inter-service, inter-agency collaborative policy and program agent. He has served on numerous boards, special study panels and advisory committees in government and with industry and academia, here and abroad. Mr. Mattice and his wife, Darla, have eight children: Darrell, Gail, Joseph, Kimberly, Kristen, Linda, Pauland, and Stephen.
